Annotation

Stormcock is widely regarded as Roy Harper's greatest album. It was the first time he'd been in a studio and he made full use of it explore what more he could do. His lyrics on all albums are among the most poetic you will find - note for example the deeply human despair at Christianity in these lines:

There is a famous straggler, stood on the edge of time
Who held the staff but did not feel the pain.
He multiplied the mysteries with utterance sublime,
And crossed his heart for those who died in shame.

The "edge of time" here should be taken as the year zero, boundary of BC and AD.
