Annotation
“PARTY for Four Hands” is a four-movement piece for piano duet by the young generation composer from Gdańsk, Poland, Mikołaj Sikała. It was written in 2023 and premiered at the Concert Hall of the Gdansk Academy of Music in March 2024. During this premiere, each movement was performed by the composer in duet with a different pianist. They were: Daniel Ziomko, Zuzanna Lisiecka-Madeja and Emilia Biskupska.
The composition is based on a combination of a classical approach to the creation of instrumental forms with various achievements of modern music. Just as composers of Baroque music wrote suites based on dances commonly practiced in their time, and composers of the Romantic era explored various national dances, so here the composer's intention was to refer to the richness of music that surrounds us in everyday life. As a result, the rhythmic and harmonic layer of the piece betrays the influence of not only jazz, and broad pop/club music, but also Irish or Latin American music, among others.
