What does “Chapayeka” mean?
The name “Chapayeka” (sharp nose) refers to the “Pharisees” (Christ’s mortal enemies) of the Yaqui and Mayo cultures of northwestern Mexico. It is a traditional figure who participates in rituals and dances during Lent and Holy Week, responsible for keeping the customs and cultural heritage of the region alive.
In Yaqui culture, those who represent the Chapayekas do so through costumes and masks made of donkey hide, generally featuring large noses, pointed ears, and colorful clothing.
Where was it filmed/Recorded?
The videos were filmed on November 21, 2025, in the La Matanza neighborhood of Hermosillo, where the artist's grandparents lived and which holds great symbolic significance for him. The cameras captured walks through the streets, interactions with neighbors, community testimonials, and spontaneous musical performances, all in an authentic neighborhood atmosphere of community and celebration. That day, dozens of residents responded to the singer's call, creating a massive turnout with music, food, and traditional drinks like bacanora.
