Tale of the Shadow

In “The Tale of the Shadow,” he tells the story from the point of view of a captain of a ship searching for a legendary ghost ship called the Shadow which is supposedly filled with gold.

Along the way, the sea, weather, and even some mythical creatures seem to warn them away from the ship until they finally find the Shadow. Everything around, even the ocean, becomes uneasily calm, but they still decide to board the ship. He, the captain, tries to take the Shadow’s helm, and the song tells of the crew’s unwitting fate, “Her rigging came alive/ She hung my crew before me eyes/ She stole my sight and cursed me Captain of The Shadow.”

He then ends the song with a warning to all those who might seek the Shadow’s treasures, for “None can tame the one the sailors call The Shadow!”
