Tonight, there was no mirror.
No garden. No boy. No fire-eyed girl.
Just me.
Standing at the edge of sleep,
holding a rose carved from bone,
its petals stained crimson.
I finally understood.
The dreams weren’t dreams.
They were memories
of who I used to be
before I woke up in this world.
